Brazilian golfer Adilson da Silva led from start to finish to clinch the Nelson Mandela Bay Classic title in his maiden Sunshine Senior Tour event at Humewood in Gqeberha on Friday.
He began the final round with a five-shot lead, an advantage he still held by the halfway mark, before beating Keith Horne, by one shot after the defending champion altered on the back nine with a 41 total.
Scot, Doug Mcguigan finished in third place on 8 under par.
In a post-match statement, Da Silva reflected on the close-call win, saying; “when you get a lead like that, sometimes you can lose your way and try to play the other guy’s game – you have to learn the hard way.”
“But I’m really happy to scrape in and they say sometimes you have to win ugly – well, this one was super ugly, but I’m still happy with that,” Da Silva added.
