Jomo Cosmos were relegated from the Absa Premiership Wednesday night after drawing 2-2 with Black Leopards in Daveyton.
Returning Leopards' captain Mongezi Bobe sunk the home team's hopes with a quick brace in the 72nd and 76th minutes.
A late fight back from Cosmos saw them net twice in the final 6 minutes to grab the draw - but it was all too little too late.
A victory for Leopards would have seen them retain their top flight status for the new season but the draw means they have to wait until their final match this weekend against Ajax Cape Town to confirm their status.
Bottom-placed Cosmos, who have 20 points from just two wins and 24 goals during their campaign, automatically return to the First Division after one season.
Its their third relegation from top flight soccer and is a record in the Premier Soccer League era.
