Chippa United player approached to fix match

The Premier Soccer League and the Police are investigating a charge by Chippa United that one of its senior players was offered a substantial amount of money to fix their PSL fixture against Maritzburg United.

The match takes place at Chippa United's home ground at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.

Chippa's COO Lukhanyo Mzinzi says the player was very upset at having been approached  to fix the match by a soccer agent that Chippa has named in its affidavit to the police and to the PSL

The Chilli Boys are currently 7th in the 16 team league  while Maritzburg United languish at the foot of the table and look doomed for relegation.

Mzinzi believes the approach to his player was a ploy to distract Chippa United in its quest to finish in the lucrative top 8 in the league this season.

He says its made them even more focused and determined than ever before to bring honour to the club and to the province by finishing in the top eight.
