Chippa United will be looking to start the year with style when they welcome reigning champions Bidvest Wits at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday (start 3.30pm).
The Chilli Boys are on a high following an emphatic victory away to AmaZulu. The win saw Chippa United move up the Absa Premiership log table following two consecutive defeats towards the end of 2017.
Coch Teboho Moloi has urged his charges not to read too much into the champions' current position on the PSL log.
Wits are lying in 15th position, accumulating 14 points after 15 games while the hosts are in seventh place with 22 points after 16 games.
“Wits showed against SuperSport United that they are the reigning champions, and will fight hard,” said Moloi on Friday.
“History shows that Wits have not lost a game at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and we will have to be at our best. We cannot afford to underestimate them like we perhaps did against Ajax Cape Town and Polokwane City here during our last game of 2017."
Meanwhile, the former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos midfielder praised the signing of Ajax Cape Town midfielder, Bantu Mzwakali.
“I welcome the arrival of Mzwakali and we are excited to have him here. He is going to add quality to the side and already you can see that most of the players have raised their game in training,” said Moloi.
Chippa have also unveiled youngsters promoted from the MDC Team to the first team; (Gregory “Cafu” Damons – defender – 21 years), (Ayanda Manengele – central midfielder – 20 years), (Xolani Maholo, and 21-year-old midfielder who made his debut against AmaZulu last Sunday). - African News Agency (ANA)
