RUSTENBURG, August 27 (ANA) â Chippa United reached the semifinals of the MTN8 on their competition debut after ousting Platinum Stars 2-0 in Rustenburg on Saturday.
Goals in either half from Rhulani Manzini and Menzi Masuku capped a brilliant away victory for Dan Malesela and his players.
?
Striker Manzini continued his hot form as he capitalised on a defensive error from Isaac Nhlapo and the goalkeeper Kagiso Mlambo to hand the Chilli Boys the lead.
?
The away team dominated possession and made it difficult for Platinum Stars to create chances.
Robert Ngâambi had an effort in the 25th minute after he linked up with Ndumiso Mabena but James Okwuosa managed to get a block in.
Manzini continued to be a menace to the Stars defence and 10 minutes before the break, Buyani Sali and Thembinkosi Lorch were both involved in a well-worked move that afforded Manzini a shot at goal but Mlambo did well to keep it out. ?
The home team came out of the break a different team. They enjoyed the lion share of the possession but Chippa were resolute in defence.
In the 75th minute, Cavin Johnsonâs men almost found a route back into the contest with a good move down the left flank. Mabenaâs first time ball was met by Ngâambi but he scuffed his effort.?
The Chilli Boys then doubled their advantage with a swift counter attack.
Masuku was on hand to tap home a brilliant square ball from Lorch and put the game out of Starsâ reach. â African News Agency (ANA)
