Kaizer Chiefs fans invaded the pitch and severely beat up a female security guard last night, following the team’s 2 - nil loss to Free State Stars in a Nedbank Cup semi-final at the Moses Mabida Stadium in Durban.
According to reports, a video shows fans kicking and beating the guard with chairs and other unidentified objects.
Angry fans stormed the field, started fires and hurled chairs in the venue, leading to the intervention of security police.
According to News 24, police had to use teargas and stun grenades to disperse unruly fans.
The protests subsequently spilled over onto the streets in the surrounding area.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Kompela has since announced his resignation from the club.
