Career high of no. 9 for Kevin Anderson

South Africa’s Kevin Anderson reached a career-high ninth place in the latest ATP singles rankings released on Monday.

Anderson won the ATP New York Open on Sunday beating America’s Sam Querry 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/1) in the final.

It was the fourth ATP title of his career for the 31-year-old  who has also had to settle for the runner-up position in no-less than 11 other ATP finals throughout his career.

The South African started 2017 at No 80 in the ATP Rankings after an injury-ravaged 2016.

It was his lowest mark since August 2010.

Anderson reached a then career-high ranking of 10th in October 2015 soon after beating Britain’s Andy Murray to reach the US Open quarterfinals.

Anderson will next play the Delray Beach Open this week and will be the third seed there.

He faces a tricky opener against Russian Evgeny Donskoy, who boasts a career win over world No 1 Roger Federer - in February 2017 at the Dubai Tennis Championships. - ANA
