Cape Town City beat Chippa 2-1

Cape Town City beat Chippa United 2-1 in an Absa Premiership game played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The home side were under some intense pressure in the early stages of the game from a lively City attack.

However, Chippa's Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi pulled off a brilliant double save to ensure that City didn't take an early lead.

In the 18th minute, Chippa defender James Okwuosa fouled City midfielder Ronald Putsche in the box and the visitors were awarded a penalty.

Lebogang Manyama, the City captain, then stepped and beat Chippa shot-stopper Akpeyi from the spot-kick to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

With his side trailing, Chippa head coach Dan Malesela decided to introduce Sandile Zuke for Sizwe Mdlinzo in the 34th minute.

Nevertheless, the Cape Town side were leading 1-0 at halftime thanks to Manyama's 19th-minute goal - his fourth league goal of the season.

Akpeyi was called into action nine minutes into the second half when he parried away Aubrey Ngoma's shot as City looked to double their lead.

In the 65th minute, Chippa were awarded a free-kick in a promising area, but Katlego Mashego placed his effort from the set-piece over the crossbar.

Second-half substitute Judas Moseamedi doubled City's lead eight minutes later when he beat Akpeyi with a good right-footed shot.

The home side were awarded a late penalty in the 83rd minute and Mashego grabbed a consolation goal for Chippa as City held on to win 2-1.
