EAST LONDON, January 18 (ANA) – East London will once again play host to the 10th annual Standard Bank Ironman 70.3 South Africa on Sunday, January 29 and elite South African triathlete, Kyle Buckingham, will be there and raring to go.
“Just 2 weeks until race day and my lead up to 70.3 South Africa has been great,” says Buckingham. “70.3 South Africa is always a tricky race to prepare for as you come off a great “off season” and there is not quite enough time to fully peak, but with every effort to get the maximum potential out of my training sessions I am really looking forward to this race.”
The race starts with a 1.9km swim in East London’s Orient Beach, followed by a challenging 90km of rolling hills bike ride and finally a flat 2-loop 21.1km run course, finishing at the ocean close to where the athletes started their day.
Based in Port Elizabeth, Kyle quickly became known in the triathlon world after winning Ironman Lake Placid in 2014 in his first year as a professional athlete and winning his age category in both Ironman Kona and Vegas 70.3 in 2013.
He now spends his time training between the USA and Port Elizabeth honing his skills by taking part in professional sporting events around the world. – African News Agency (ANA)
