Brandwag win second Karoo Schools Golf Challenge.

Cradock Golf Club in the Karoo hosted the second Karoo School Golf Challenge.  Hosted by Albert House B&B, 8 schools took part in the Challenge which included fourball betterball, singles and foursomes format.  This year the Challenge was won by Brandwag High from Uitenhage with the defending champions Grey High School second and Westering High School from Port Elizabeth winning the bronze medal.

The Challenge got off to an exciting start with the fourball betterball over 9 holes on the Saturday morning.  Grey High School set the pace with 72 followed by Cradock High School (74) and DF Malherbe High School (77).  During the singles in the afternoon, played in windy conditions, excellent golf by Ronald Baxter (76) and Quintus Barnard (77) from Brandwag High School brought them from 10 shots back to be leaders after the first day by 10 shots.  Grey High School were second with DF Malherbe High School in third position.  Imkeleen Meyer from Despatch High School also played well with 78 shots.

The interesting foursomes (strokeplay) format saw some interesting golf being played on Sunday morning.  Quintus Barnard and Marcel Rademeyer played the last 9 holes in 4 under par to finish on 74 shots.  This helped Brandwag High School to hold onto first place and win the Challenge.

The Brandwag High School, consisting of Ronald Baxter (captain), Quintus Barnard, Marcel Rademeyer and Minette Olivier eventually won by 10 strokes (479) with Grey High School second (489) and Westering High School in third (507).
