Following the retirement of Border Cricket Captain, Abongile Sodumo earlier this month, Border Cricket has announced that Jerry Nqolo will be the new Captain for Border Cricket.

Nqolo who was born in Alice, attended Dale College.  He is a Right-hand batsman and a Right-arm medium bowler.   He first made his debut for Border in 2010 and has played 38 first class matches to date, scoring 1304 runs with a highest score of 137.   He has also taken 53 wickets with best figures of 7/91 in a match.

He was named in South Africa's squad for the U19 World Cup in 2009 and received a Warriors contract in 2010.   His favourite shot is the square cut

The Selectors, Directors and Members of Border Cricket agree that he was a popular choice as Captain and who had been the understudy to Sodumo during the last season.   "He is an energetic, well respected and responsible young man with all the attributes to become a good leader" said the coach, Frank Plaatjes.

Nqolo enjoyed his best season in 2013/2014 with some outstanding performances in first class cricket and did well in the Twenty20 and 50 over competitions.  He is an integral member of the Border squad, succeeding with both bat and ball.   He has captained most junior provincial teams which he has represented in the past.

Nqolo said "I'm delighted with the opportunity and it is a great honour to lead such a great team who have been victorius over the last season winning two trophies in the past three seasons.  I have big shoes to fill but I'm looking forward to the challenge".

The Border team start their campaign in the new Africa T20 Cup which starts in September.   Border plays their pool matches in Potchefstroom from 11 to 13 September 2015.
