Jamaican Usain Bolt has been stripped of his 4×100 metre relay gold he won at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, as teammate Nesta Carter was found guilty of doping on Wednesday according to the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday.
Bolt, the most decorated sprinter in athletics history, had won the ‘triple-triple’ taking gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in each of the last three Olympic Games. Now, Bolt will have to settle for the eight Olympic gold medals thanks to Carter.
The IOC released the following statement on Carter:
“Nesta Carter, 31, of Jamaica, competing in the men’s 4x100m relay event (round 1 and final) in which he and his teammates ranked 1st and for which they were awarded the gold medal, has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008. Re-analysis of Carter’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine.” – African News Agency (ANA)
