The Blitzbokke defended their South African HSBC World Series Sevens title with a glorious 29-14 win over Argentina in the final at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday night after leading 17-14 at halftime.
The 5-2 try triumph in front of 54 000 fans marked the third time that South Africa have won a World Series Sevens title on home soil and takes them to a joint top spot with Fiji on the latest overall standings for the current season.
The Blitzbokke’s match-winning tries were scored by Rosco Speckman (2), Seabelo Senatla (2) and Rayno Benjamin. Justin Gedult added two conversions and he was named ‘Man-of-the-Match’ afterwards.
There was some Cape Town Sevens consolation for third play-off winners France who scored a come-from-behind 28-26 win over Kenya.
South Africa had beaten France 21-12 in the semi-finals and Argentina had accounted for Kenya 24-22
