New Zealand got their South African tour underway with a 24-run win over South Africa A in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, captain Brendan McCullum hit 32 and Colin Munro 39 as the Black Caps posted 140 for 7 in their 20 overs.
For the South Africans Kyle Abbott was pick of the bowlers with 4 for 16 in his 4 overs.
In reply, South Africa A could only manage 116 for 9 with only Vaughan van Jaarsveld making a significant contribution.
He was eventually caught and bowled by Michael Bates for 43.
The teams agreed to a late change, allowing 12 players per side, as opposed to the standard 11-member teams.
