South Africa’s Brad Binder set a new MotoGP speed record at the Italian MotoGP on Saturday.
He pushed his Red Bull KTM machine to the limit to set a new record speed of 366.1km/h at Mugello during the Tissot Sprint Race, where he finished in 11th place after incurring a long-lap penalty.
Italian rider, Enea Bastianini, was not too far behind with a top speed during the spring race of 364.8 km/h and in 2022, Spanish rider, Jorge Martin, set the record at 363.6 km/h.
Reflecting on the race and the penalty he received for coming together with Alex Marquez, Binder said looking back he though “Alex went a bit too deep and was cutting back.”
“I was looking right and holding my line. I should not have had a penalty. I feel sorry for Alex because you never want to be involved in compromising anybody’s race but that cost me points today,” Binder lamented.
He said his Red Bull KTM machine “wasn’t slow” on the day, adding that the bike is a “rocket.”
Binder is currently third in the overall rider’s championship.
