Russian runner Alexandra Morozova has overcome this week's controversy around her by winning the women's race at the Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

An emotional Morozova was barred from participating in the race due to clear instructions from World Athletics who made a strong request to exclude Russian athletes.

The athlete took the matter to the Pietermaritzburg High Court which ruled in her favour on Saturday.

It is not yet clear if Morozova will be entitled to get the prize money as the matter will be back in court in November

Meanwhile, Tete Dijana from South Africa won the 95th Comrades Marathon.

Dijana won the race in 5 hours 30 min and 38 seconds, followed in second place by fellow South African and 2019 winner Edward Mothibi who finished the race about three minutes later.

The third place went to another South African, Dan Moselakwe.

This year's race was downhill from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Prize money for the 95th Comrades Marathon was also halved with R260 000 on offer for each winner.
