Afcon tickets go on sale

Tickets for next year's Africa Cup of Nations football matches in Port Elizabeth went on sale at the Super Spar in New Brighton in late September. Tickets will be available at all Super Spars in the Metro and all tickets bought before the 24th of October will qualify for a 20 per cent discount.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will host 6 group matches with the first double header on the 20th of January next year. There will be another double header on the 24th of January with the early games at 5pm and the late games at 8pm. The other two group games will be on the 27th and 28th of January, both kicking off at 7pm.

Tickets for these matches, and for the 3rd/ 4th placed playoff on the 9th of February have been priced at R50 for category 3, R60 for category 2 and R75 for category one.

The quarter-final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is on the 2nd of February and tickets for this match have been priced at R75 for category 3, R90 for category 2 and R110 for category one.

Afcon Chief Operations Officer Andrew Dipela said he hoped all South Africans would support the event which will see Bafana Bafana playing in one of the opening matches at Soccer City on the 19th of January next year. He said that even though South Africa had to bail out Libya to host the tournament, it now belonged to all football lovers in the country. "We have a responsibility to fill the stadiums to support our team and our continent," he said.

Dipela added that the organizing committee had drawn from the experiences gained by hosting the World Cup in 2010. "I can safely say that the operations plan has been completed and we will begin rolling it out in the different host cities from early October. One of our objectives is to provide the high standard of quality that South Africans are accustomed to - we will be ready." The draw for Afcon 2013 will be made on the 24th of October. The final will be played at Soccer City at 8pm on the 10th of February 2013.
