Walk on the Wildside at the SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees

Visitors to the annual SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees will be able to get closer to the province’s wildlife at the SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees 2023.

For three days, from Friday, June 30 to Sunday, July 2, there will be reptile and raptor shows by Animals in Wonderland in the MTN Pavilion.

There will also be a fascinating display by the Iziko Mobile Museum, while SANParks will be hosting virtual game drives and a kids colouring-in section in the Walk on the Wildside pavilion.

Visitors will also be able to learn about taxidermy and take part in the ECGMA horn measuring competition.

“Celebrating the rich natural heritage of the Eastern Cape and the rest of the country has always been the foundation of the Kirkwood Wildsfees. We strive to provide visitors with mix that will entertain and engage the whole family,” says Kirkwood Wildsfees director Jenni Honsbein.

For music lovers, the live entertainment on the giant ECPTA stage includes East London-based band Can of Worms on Friday and Saturday; Wonderboom and Dodo on Friday; Karlien van Jaarsveld and Robbie Wessels and Band on the Saturday, and Watershed, Majozi and Fatman on Sunday.

There are 25 national acts in all over the three days, with the performances starting at 12 on Friday and 11 on Saturday and Sunday.

“Please note that no private firearms are allowed on the SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees grounds.

In terms of the health and safety regulations no exceptions will be made,” says Honsbein.

“The police have informed the organisers that SAPS may no longer accept private weapons for temporary storage.

“Gun owners are please to ensure that they arrange safe keeping for their weapons if they plan on bringing them to Kirkwood,” she says.
