Stay safe while marking Mandela Day with Algoa FM

Algoa FM will be lending a helping hand to various cities in the Algoa Country region.

In Nelson Mandela Bay there is a need for winter blankets as cold snaps add to the misery of those fighting against the Covid-19 virus.

Algoa FM is working with the Nelson Mandela Bay Development Agency in a blanket collection drive for those in need in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

The blankets will be donated to the emergency hospital at the stadium and to the needy.

While the residents in George and surrounds can make their Mandela Day contribution by helping to feed thousands of locals by supporting the 137 George Municipality soup kitchens.

Run by volunteers, the soup kitchens are feeding 10 000 people twice a day.

Algoa FM is collaborating with the George municipality in its call for donations of ingredients.

A drive-through donation centre has been opened at the George City Hall, where people can drop off dry goods without having to leave their cars.

Listeners in the Buffalo City region will still be able to make a contribution towards the Grade 7’s at Sinomonde Primary School as well as grade 12’s at Mzuvukile High school in the Buffalo city area will be supplied with personal protective equipment (PPE) through an Algoa FM Mandela Day fundraising drive.

This is to ensure that the learners are able to protect themselves during the pandemic.

“Lending a helping hand in and around Algoa Country is what the station is about and this initiative does exactly that and more, we ask anyone who is able to contribute to any of the areas to kindly visit our website”, says Algoa FM marketing manager Lesley Geyer.
