GQEBERHA – ISUZU Motors South Africa is the official presenting partner of the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer.
The Gqeberha based commercial and light commercial vehicle manufacturer pledged its full support during an official agreement signing session, recently hosted at Algoa FM. ISUZU has confirmed a three-year sponsorship of R500 000 together with six ISUZU vehicles to be used by Algoa FM for the promotion and execution of the Big Walk for Cancer.
“Driven by our commitment to make a meaningful impact within the communities in which we operate, ISUZU is honoured to be the presenting partner for the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer. This walk resonates with our employees and their families who are the heart and soul of our business and who show up in record numbers to participate each year. This is more than just a walk for us. It’s an opportunity to take action, celebrate life, to show honour and support; and to positively impact the beneficiaries of the event,” said Mr Billy Tom, President of ISUZU Motors South Africa.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer which has supported many cancer-related causes over the period.
Alfie Jay, Managing Director of Algoa FM, expressed his gratitude towards ISUZU for their support. “The increase in vehicle sponsorship not only provides practical assistance, but also strengthens our ability to deliver on our Big Walk for Cancer mission. I am extremely grateful to Billy (Tom) and his team for expanding ISUZU’s support to this event, which has made a significant contribution to creating cancer awareness, supporting survivors, and promoting early detection over the years,” said Jay.
This year’s beneficiaries are Reach for a Dream and wings and Wishes.
Reach for a Dream manifests hope by fulfilling dreams of children fighting life-threatening illnesses such as cancer and leukaemia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, renal failure and various blood disorders. The organisation requires laptops and tablets to be used by children who are undergoing long-term treatment and are unable to attend class. They will have the opportunity to connect with their families while in hospital, do research as well as complete school assignments, learn, and develop as they have access to the world.
Wings and Wishes make transportation available for underprivileged sick children who need to be transported for specialised medical treatment which they require – anywhere in South Africa. Many patients travel from extremely rural areas to the cities for treatment.
The Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer will take place simultaneously in Gqeberha, East London and George. Jay said the ISUZU vehicles will provide critical logistics support during the weeks leading up to the event. “The vehicles are wrapped in pink and are eye-catching moving billboards which help to promote the big walk,” said Jay.
