Algoa Country’s favourite morning show presenter, Wayne Hart, is in critical condition at a private hospital in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Wayne was admitted to hospital on Wednesday evening after complaining earlier that day of a stomach ache.
Initial diagnosis indicated an infection of the pancreas, which was releasing toxins into the body and causing severe pain.
As of Friday evening, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. Further tests revealed that the toxins from the pancreas had started to affect his lungs and kidneys.
To this end, he has been placed under sedation and on a ventilator to assist his breathing. Dialysis was also introduced to assist his kidneys.
He remains in critical condition, but his doctors report that improvements in his condition on Monday and Tuesday are a positive sign.
Wayne’s spouse, Leander Kruger-Hart and Algoa FM Managing Director, Alfie Jay have appealed to the public to respect Wayne’s privacy at this difficult time.
Kruger-Hart said: “The love and support shown by the hundreds of enquiries about Wayne’s condition have been as heartwarming as they’ve been overwhelming. I will of course continue to update close family, friends, and colleagues. However, any further public statements will only be made once there is something positive to report.”
Alfie Jay said; “The overwhelming support shown by loyal listeners and clients, who have been calling and messaging us to obtain updates on Wayne’s condition is greatly appreciated. While we acknowledge that Wayne is an important public figure, we would like to request some respite for Wayne’s family and colleagues.”
“We remain positive and are keeping him in our thoughts and prayers,” said Jay.
