Algoa FM presenters are once again prepping for the first day of school as they hit several intersections in a bid to collect as much school attire to assist the less privileged children in the community. Presenters will be found welcoming scholars across Algoa FM’s broadcast area from 06h30-08h00 on the morning of Wednesday, 21 January 2015.
“Going back to school is an exciting time for many parents and children, but for some this experience is cumbersome as many children in our region do not have decent school attire. As a result children dread their first day of school,” says PRO of Community Chest, Colette Theron.
This annual ‘Back to School’ project is a fun way for us to shed light on this issue, where our presenters dress up in their old school uniforms, giving our listeners the opportunity to assist where they can,” says Marketing Manager of Algoa FM, Toinette Koumpan.
They will collect donations of school clothing and shoes, and even cash donations at intersections. In return, presenters provide a gift of stationery for each donation.
All clothing and cash donations collected at the Eastern Cape intersections will be given to Community Chest and donations in George will be given to the Eden Lions who will distribute it to communities in need.
Kaycee Rossouw and Briony Sparg will collect at the corner of Stanford Road and Aubrey Street, Wayne Hart and Lauren Mungur at the intersection of Main Road and 14th Avenue in Walmer and Herman Tefo at the corner Ferguson Road & Mati Road in New Brighton. In East London, Mio and Queenie will collect at the corner of Rosedale and Amalinda, Main Road, Vinny Nogemane at the intersection of Union Avenue and Crewe Road, and Gordon Graham at the intersection of Old Transkei and Batting Roads.
In George, Algoa FM’s new drive-time presenter, Jacques Arendt, will collect at the four-way stop in Laing Street at George South Primary School.
