Algoa FM ignites the Christmas Spirit for the elderly at Kingsholme

A total of R65 000 raised by the annual Algoa FM golf day has been handed over to the Kingsholme (Home for the Frail Aged) in King Williams Town.

Held in August 2012, the charity golf day raised a record amount for the 20-year-old event.

“Due to the continued support we receive from our listeners, we are able to contribute even more significantly to our chosen beneficiary and we are delighted to be making this contribution to the elderly in our community who are often forgotten during this festive period”, says Algoa FM Operations Director Alfie Jay.

Kingsholme has been offering 24 hour a day accommodation and full nursing care to 50 Xhosa, English, and Afrikaans-speaking residents in the communities of King Williams Town.

According to the Chairman of Board of Directors for Kingsholme, Pastor R. Ihlenfeldt, all residents are over the age of 60 and therefore require a holistic treatment plan. Therefore the Home ensures that their physical, medical and especially their spiritual needs are catered for by encouraging regular social interaction.

“We are very grateful to Algoa FM for recognising the work we are doing for the elderly in our community by selecting us as the beneficiary. This very generous donation helps us to garner all the necessary resources to help us continue providing our residents with adequate housing, trained carers and Registered Professional Nurses and will certainly help us make this year’s Christmas a special one for them”, says Pastor R. Ihlenfeldt.
