With the annual Eastern Cape and Garden route “festival season” now in full swing, organisers are partnering with regional station Algoa FM to attract festinos.
Algoa FM started the season at the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees, which attracted a record 46 000 visitors over the weekend of June 29 to July 1. Presenter, KayCee Rossouw was on site to provide regular live crossings on air to highlight the major attractions.
An outside broadcast van was also set up at the annual National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, which runs from June 28 to July 8.
Viv Bozack and Roy Williams broadcast live from the festival over the first weekend, with Roy Williams staying on to bring listeners all the news and gossip from the festival during daily crossings on Viv’s 12-3pm show.
New addition to the Algoa FM team, Andrew Serfontein - better known as Drew - will be doing live crossings from the Knysna Oyster Festival from July 6, 2012 to July 15, 2012, keeping listeners informed and up to date on the highlights of the festival.
Drew hails from a local community radio station as an award winning presenter at the 2012 MTN Radio Awards in the category of ‘best Drive Show” by a community station. He has since joined the Algoa FM team on the weekend slot from 2am-6am.
In addition to this, Wayne Hart and Lauren Mungur, the duo on Algoa FM who presents the Fast Lane during weekdays from 3pm-7pm, will have a very busy Festival Season as they will be broadcasting live from two major events.
This includes a live broadcast from the Biltong Festival on Friday, July 13 in Somerset-East, as well as a live broadcast from Vodacom George Cheese Festival on Friday, July 27, 2012.
“We have always prided ourselves in bringing our listeners quality entertainment and information on the best of what the Eastern Cape has to offer. With our expansion into the Garden Route we are now able to extend this service to the communities reaching from Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, George and Mossel Bay as we get more involved in major festivals in these areas too,” says Dave Tiltmann, managing director of Algoa FM.
