The ANC has lost its court bid to get the Electoral Commission to deregister former president Jacob Zuma's MK Party.

The Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen says the party has a plan to rescue South Africa and the Eastern Cape in particular.

DA leader John Steenhuisen launched his party's national election poster campaign in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday.

In the run up to the 2024 national and provincial elections, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba on Tuesday officially announced Athol Trollip as the party's premier candidate for the Eastern Cape. "As the former mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, he brings with him invaluable understanding of governance in a province which have been hallowed out by the ruling party," Mashaba said during a media briefing.

The GOOD party says it has summarily suspended Peter de Villiers, its councillor in the Drakenstein municipality, from all party activities after receiving a complaint of sexual misconduct from a party member.

Last month, Zuma drove a new split in the ANC, vowing to campaign and vote for the radical new Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK) party, or Spear of the Nation, named after the ANC's old military wing.

Former president Jacob Zuma said he would neither campaign nor vote for the current ANC under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa in the 2024 general elections. He said his conscience will not allow him to lie to people and try to convince them to vote for the ruling party.

Former Nelson Mandela Bay DA Councillor, Leander Kruger, was officially sworn in as the newest Democratic Alliance member in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature on Wednesday.
