The former EFF student activist who pleaded guilty for his role in the 2016 #FeesMustFall campaign has been arrested yet again.

Floyd Shivambu has confirmed he will no longer be donning his red beret. The EFF deputy president addressed the media at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon. 

The resignation of Kabelo Gwamanda, who held the job for less than 15 months, means the city of at least 4.8 million people will get its eighth mayor in five years when his replacement is installed.

MK cut into the ANC's share of votes in the May 29 elections, taking third place with 14.5 percent. Zuma now leads the party, which has 58 lawmakers in the 400-seat National Assembly. The ANC managed 40 percent in the May vote.
