NMBM: No council meeting on agenda despite court ruling

The Democratic Alliance in Nelson Mandela Bay says it has not received a notification for a special council meeting on Thursday.

That’s despite a ruling handed down by the Port Elizabeth Court on Wednesday last weekordering Council Speaker, Buyelwa Mafaya to convene a council meeting within 7 days.

Tomorrow will be the 7th day that councillors have not received any word from Mafaya.

Mafaya lost an application for leave to appeal against an earlier order for her to convene a special council meeting that would see the election of a new executive mayor among other important issues.

DA Councillor Morne Steyn filed the application in his personal capacity and says that if there's no meeting he will approach the court again.

Steyn says the next application will be for contempt of a court order and that he will ask the court to enforce compliance.

Municipal spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki confirmed to Algoa FM news that there is no meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
