‘I will not vote for the ANC,’ says disgruntled Zuma

Former president Jacob Zuma said he would neither campaign nor vote for the current ANC under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa in the 2024 general elections.

He said his conscience will not allow him to lie to people and try to convince them to vote for the ruling party.

Zuma outlined his plans for the upcoming polls during a media briefing held in Soweto on Saturday.

In a shock announcement, he said that he would instead vote for the newly registered MK or uMkhonto Wesizwe party, but will remain a member of the ANC.

In a statement read by his daughter, Duduzile Zuma, he highlighted various concerns.

“The ANC of Ramaphosa has declared war against progressive black professionals and intellectuals,” the statement read.

“The ANC has plunged the country into darkness, which has ruined the economy.”

Zuma also said the ANC is not the party it used to be.

“Due to infiltration and failure of leadership, the ANC has been reduced to an organisation that is hardly respected by those who it sought to liberate, serve and protect.

“My conscience will not allow me to lie to the people of South Africa and to pretend that the ANC of Ramaphosa is the ANC of Luthuli, Tambo and Mandela.”
