One political party making quiet in-roads in the Eastern Cape is the Freedom Front Plus, which has won two seats in the hotly-contested Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
The party also has seats in several other Eastern Cape municipalities, including Buffalo City, Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, Kouga and Koukamma Local Municipalities.
FF Plus campaign manager Wouter Wessels says they're excited about their breakthrough in the Eastern Cape and Nelson Mandela Bay in particular, where the party held one seat between 2006 and 2011.
"We believe that we are the growing alternative," said Wessels. "You just have to look at our growth throughout the country where we won wards, where we more than tripled our support and our number of councillors."
Wessels said they are excited that residents of the Eastern Cape, and specifically Nelson Mandela Bay, also now have the voice of the FF Plus in Council.
"We are the voice of reason, a voice of principles, we have a steadfast policy and we will serve the community," he said.
"We believe this paves the way forward to 2024 and beyond, and we will sustain this growth."
