A dirty, dilapidated city, an incorrect billing system, and outsourcing of core municipal functions are some of the reasons why the ANC has taken the decision to recall Buffalo City Metropolitan Mayor (BCM), Xola Pakati.

The ANC Eastern Cape’s provincial spokesperson, Loyiso Magqashela says the decision was made by the Provincial Working Committee (PWC).

Magqashela says the decision has been taken after due consideration and assessment by the ANC PWC of the performance of the municipality.

He says the party’s approach to this matter has been informed by the interests of the Buffalo City broader community.

The provincial leadership also submitted three names to National Officials to be part of an interview process while Pakati continues at the helm.

These are Princess Faku, Nozandile Mhlola and Humphrey Maxhegwana.

Faku is the municipalities’ Deputy Mayor while Mhlola is the human settlements portfolio boss while Maxhegwana is the council speaker.

Magqashela says the city had hired a new municipal manager, Mxoli Yawa that needs someone who won’t “frustrate” the new administration.

He says the names put forward will add value and are experienced comrades who can drive a turnaround in the city.

Magqashela says the party also considered the gender question when adding names to the list.
