The ACDP in Nelson Mandela Bay has sought legal advice following this week's appointment of Advocate Lonwabo Ngoqo as the new City Manager
Ngoqo, was found guilty of financial misconduct as a senior manager while performing duties as a city manager at Bitou Municipality.
ACDP councillor Lance Grootboom says when Ngoqo applied for the position he failed to disclose that he had previously been convicted of serious financial misconduct.
He says Ngoqo misrepresented himself and in terms of Regulation 17(c) of the Systems Act provides that when the council takes a resolution it should satisfy itself that the candidate does not appear on th record of staff that was dismissed for financial misconduct.
The Democratic Alliance also does not support Ngoqo's appointment.
A simple Google search brings up several articles about Ngoqo's long legal battles with the Bitou Municipality.
The DA's Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille says they have been negotiating with smaller parties in Nelson Mandela Bay to establish a new DA-led coalition government, which subsequently failed.
Zille says this week's appointment of the new City Manager was the straw that broke the camel's back.
In a lengthy statement issued on her official Facebook page, Zille said they did not support Ngoqo's appointment due to his previous convictions of financial mismanagement.
She says the DA was under the impression that the smaller parties were in an agreement on the issue.
Zille says the AIM, UDM, AIC, DOP and the GOOD party made an about-turn acting in bad faith.
