Port Elizabeth police have arrested one suspect and are searching for two others after a woman was allegedly raped in a house in the city's Northern Areas. Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning.

The current Guinness PRO14 season has been suspended in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The PRO14 is an international rugby league, with cross-border travel inevitable which brings with it unique challenges.

Five suspects were arrested soon after they robbed a discount store in Govan Mbeki Avenue in North End, Port Elizabeth on Friday afternoon. Police say it is alleged that the men entered the store and threatened the staff with two firearms, before fleeing with cell phones, a laptop computer and an undisclosed amount of money.

The Institute for Communicable Diseases has confirmed a third case of the coronavirus in South Africa. It said on Twitter on Sunday that it had received the results of the first patient's wife, who was in direct contact with him, and she had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Members of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad arrested two alleged gang members and confiscated firearms while they were on their way to a funeral on Friday afternoon. Police received information of a suspicious white Jeep that was driving in Standford Road in a funeral convoy and upon searching the seven occupants, two were found in possession of a 9mm pistol, of which the serial number was filed off, and a 7.65 mm pistol, which was reported stolen in Walmer in January last year.

Three people have been killed in an accident on the R408 between Dutywa and Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape. The Provincial Transport Department says the accident happened late on Saturday afternoon when a Toyota Avanza with 11 occupants overturned.

Three Eastern Cape traffic officers have been sentenced to an effective combined 15 years imprisonment for corruption. The Hawks confirmed on Sunday that the sentencing of 53-year old Mzuvukile Nkontso, 47-year old Phathekile Dinginto and 32-year old Noluvuko Kondile Vuba, followed a thorough investigation since December 2016, after information was received that Peddie traffic officers were demanding and accepting bribes while performing their duties.

Two men, who were arrested at an accident scene, transporting mandrax tablets on N2 near Jeffreys Bay in April 2017, have been sentenced to an effective eight years imprisonment each in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court.
