Pick-up lines – a term used to describe the process of starting a conversation with romantic intent.

For years both men and women have used their words in creative ways of starting conversations with the person they feel has the potential of becoming their long-term partner.

While many people often go to great lengths to impress their crush with their playful use of words, some feel like pickup lines are a waste and that they do not really play a big part in impressing the person you adore.

According to the relationship blog Lover Away, pick-up lines should never be your go-to choice because they don’t work.

According to the above-mentioned source, research reveals two things about the human species. This is because men are logical thinkers, and women think emotionally.

It therefore makes sense why most guys tend to put a lot of effort into the material things like dressing well and speaking smoothly because they systemize everything – including attraction.

The above-mentioned blog explains that when these qualities are present in addition to a charismatic personality, a pick-up line might work, but not all the time.

Here's why:

It becomes stale

Having to constantly repeat the line you use on multiple women you meet, tends to have a negative outcome after a certain number of times. Not only does it lack the excitement from you, but there is also a good chance that the person you approach has heard that several times before.

Girls prefer your authenticity

“Women are much better at “sensing” things than men. If a line is stale or unnatural to you, the girl will know. Being spontaneous and expressing yourself honestly is way easier,” explains Love Away.

The line becomes an excuse

According to Love Away, the use of pick-up lines is a useful excuse to start a conversation with a woman. However, when you continuously use these throughout your interaction you become full of excuses.

This can be “harmful to your development and unattractive to girls.”
