A 20-year-old Eastern Cape man has died after being struck by lightning in the Ezakatini village.
The Amatole District Municipality said the incident happened this weekend following warnings about severe thunderstorms by the SA Weather Service.
AMD spokesperson, Sisa Msiwa, said the man was at home at the time of the incident on Saturday.
"In light of the tragedy, a joint operations effort has been activated comprising the Amathole District Disaster Team and the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development to provide essential support and assistance to the affected family," she said.
Msiwa also said that community members should contact their ward councillors with any reports of damage to homes and infrastructure to facilitate timely support and response.
"Our thoughts are with the affected family during this difficult time," she added.
