Yet another CIT robbery in EC - this time on N2

Police in the Eastern Cape are investigating a case of attempted murder and cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place on the N2 near Ndakeni on Tuesday.

It is the second G4S van targeted in a single day in the Province.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says suspects driving in a white Isuzu double cab bakkie forcefully stopped the security van.

She says about five suspects were all wearing balaclavas and ordered the occupants of the van to get out and lay by the fence.

The vehicle was then bombed by the suspects who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in the direction of Mount Frere.

The security guard was robbed of his firearm and shot and wounded in his right hand and knee.

Earlier in the day another CIT robbery took place on the N6 between Stutterheim and East London with a similar modus operandi.
