Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of carjacking and kidnapping after two women had a harrowing ordeal in Ngqeleni on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says that shortly after 1 pm the driver of a grey Mitsubishi Pajero was forced to stop on a gravel road, known as the Mdumbi Road.
He says the road was blocked with big stones, about 2 km from the Mdumbi Backpackers.
WO Nkohli says a group of four men, one armed with a rifle, pointed at the women and forced them out of their vehicle and shoved them into the nearby bushes.
He says a passerby who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police.
Moments later police arrived and the suspect stole the victims' belongings and fled the scene.
The traumatised women were later found in the bushes.
No shots were fired.
Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station.
