A 30-year-old police Constable from Gqeberha is in police custody after allegedly killing his girlfriend in Algoa Park on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for police Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the Constable, who was on leave, was embroiled in an argument with his girlfriend at their flat shortly after 5 pm.
She says shots were heard and hostage negotiators were called to the scene.
Colonel Naidu says commanders managed to subdue the policeman who eventually handed himself over.
The victim, believed to be 35 years old died at the scene.
Her name will be released once a formal identification is done.
The Constable is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of murder, while the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will also launch an investigation.
