Police detectives at Humewood have opened an inquest docket after the body of an unknown woman was found floating in the sea near the Cape Recife Lighthouse.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a family walking on the beach near the lighthouse spotted the body at approximately 11 o'clock on Thursday morning and alerted police.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the body of the African woman was semi-naked and estimated to be between 50 and 55 years of age.
She only had her bra on.
There were no visible injuries on her body and the cause of death will only be determined once a post mortem is done.
