The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Gqeberha arrested a 23-year-old woman on a charge of perjury after she falsely reported a case of kidnapping.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the woman alleged that her husband dropped her off at the Provincial Hospital last Friday as she was due to deliver her baby.

She further alleged that she gave birth and went to the nursery later that day to check on her child, but the baby was not there.

Colonel Naidu says according to the accused when she started making a noise at the hospital, she was thrown out by nurses and security.

She reported the alleged kidnapping to the police, but as the investigation unfolded, it was established that the woman had lied and had never given birth nor was she pregnant.

Farhaanah Abrahams was arrested and charged on Tuesday and appeared in the Gqeberha magistrate court on Wednesday where she was released on R500 bail.

The case was postponed to 9 November.
