Eastern Cape police are investigating two counts of murder after a woman and child were found shot dead near CTM in Amalinda, in East London on Wednesday morning.
Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said police were summoned to the scene on Amalinda Main Road at about 07h00.
“Upon arriving at the scene, police found a grey Toyota Yaris in the parking bay.”
She said on investigation, the body of a 44-year-old woman was found in the driver’s seat, while the 10-year-old child was lying on the pavement next to the vehicle on the passenger side.
“They both had gunshot wounds to their upper bodies,” she said.
Mawisa appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist with the investigation to go their nearest police station.
She said the circumstances surrounding the incident are as yet unknown and forms part of the investigation.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
