The woman accused of the brutal murder of Gqeberha trade unionist, Lizo Vakala, has abandoned her bid for bail in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court.
Thirty-five-year-old Miranda Galela made a brief court appearance on Friday.
She was arrested after the charred remains of the 64-year-old National Education, Health, and Allied Worker's Union vice-chairperson were found in bushes along Addo Road last month.
During her court appearance, Galela covered her head and face with a dark hoodie, speaking softly when she confirmed to Magistrate Magqani Daca that she will not be applying for bail.
She kept her head bowed as she left the courtroom without looking at the gallery. The matter was remanded to the 31st of January 2023 for further investigations.
Meanwhile, Vakala was laid to rest on Friday at Raymond Mhlaba Sports Centre in Motherwell.
Nehawu's provincial secretary, Mlu Ncapayi, told Algoa FM News that they were disappointed that there has been no public outcry about Vakala's murder.
