Volkswagen has confirmed a technical issue with the new Polo's, including those built in South Africa.
Wheels 24 says according to the German carmaker, there's a possibility that in rare circumstances, when the back centre seat and back left seat are occupied at the same time, that the left seat belt lock could be released accidentally.
This issue also affects more than 8 000 new Polo's produced at VWSA's Uitenhage plant.
Head of communications, Matt Genrich, says notices will be issued to customers in due course.
"The issue is around the potential of the middle seatbelt loosening under certain conditions, it is not anything that affects normal driving in any way. Once we have all the details exactly as to what entails the fix, we will inform all the customers directly and then we will also go out again asking for customers to bring their cars in when needed to fix, which will be quite a quick fix" he said.
