The George city centre has come to a virtual standstill amid a protest by local taxi operators who are unhappy with the introduction of the Go George Integrated Public Transport System.
The protest is being led by the Economic Freedom Fighters in the Western Cape.
EFF Western Cape chairperson, Bernard Joseph, told Algoa FM News in an earlier interview that they were approached to take up the campaign against the pilot bus project by taxi associations in George and surrounding areas.
They claim, amongst other things, that there was no proper consultation.
Last week Joseph told Algoa FM News that the taxi operators decided that the only remaining course of action available to them was to take to the streets of George in protest.
"They have taken it upon themselves to get lawyers to represent them and just yesterday morning they receive a letter from their lawyers, indicating that the George municipality are not keen to meet with them. Based on that the taxi industry of the Southern Cape have decided they will have rolling mass action." he said.
