Environmental Affairs Minister, Edwa Molewa, has effectively set aside a decision to grant environmental authorisation for the development of a proposed fish farm off Port Elizabeth's popular Hobie Beach.
Molewa announced the decision on Thursday following a deluge of opposition to the proposal from stakeholders in Nelson Mandela Bay who said they were not opposed to the idea of a fish farm but were opposed to where it was going to be situated.
In an eight page document, Minister Molewa said that she had decided to revert the matter to the deputy director general of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for reconsideration after certain undertakings were made.
