The murder trial of Vicki Terblanche continued in the High Court in Gqeberha today where the defence wrapped up with its only witness, murder accused Reinhardt Leach.
Defence advocate Jodine Coertzen wanted to know about the night he was formally arrested.
Leach said he was dodging police who wanted him to go to Vicki's home a day after he reported her missing. He started to panic and testified that he called a friend, a gangster, who gave him five numbers he could call for legal advice.
He said nobody answered and he was playing for time but eventually returned to Vicki's home where he was surrounded by police.
Leach said he willingly drove to the Mount Road Police Station where he told police about Cullis and De Ridder.
Leach was placed in a police bakkie, and they first drove to De Ridder's home, but he was not there. Cullis was then questioned and taken to the police station.
Leach, who still had his phone on him then took another chance and reached an attorney Theuns Roelofse who asked him if he had made a statement to which he replied yes.
Leach said Roelofse told him if he signed the statement he could go home.
Roelofse then asked to speak to the Captain. After the call, Leach's phone was confiscated, and he was taken to the holding cells.
After Cullis was questioned, police asked Leach if he wanted to stick to his story as Cullis was about to point out Vicki's grave.
State Advocate Marius Stander will continue with cross-examination after lunch.
