Vicki murder: Cullis implicates husband in explosive testimony

The murder trial of Vicki Terblanche is set to continue in the Gqeberha High Court on Thursday, where a key witness for the state will be cross-examined.

Dylan Cullis, who took a plea deal with the state, testified on Wednesday how murder accused Reinhardt Leach approached him in the holding cells shortly after their arrest, asking him to take the fall for the crime.

In his testimony, he said Leach promised that he and his co-accused, Vicki's estranged husband Arnold, would look after him if he did.

He also said Arnold approached him a second time in the holding cells and asked him to change his statement to one that does not implicate him.

In his final question to Cullis, State Advocate Marius Stander asked Cullis if he was aware of plans to have him killed in prison, to which he replied yes.

Vicki was found buried in a shallow grave in October 2021.

Leach, who is currently on trial for her murder, insists that it was Cullis who killed his then-girlfriend.

After their trials were separated, Arnold Terblanche will go on trial in October this year.

He is facing six charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, defeating the ends of justice, conspiracy to defeat the ends of justice and conspiracy to commit murder.

It is the state's case that Terblanche and other persons unknown to the state conspired to have Leach, Cullis, and Mario de Ridder Jnr killed.

Advocate Stander said De Ridder, a 204 state witness, will be called to testify.

Arnold Terblanche has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
