Police in Dikeni are investigating a case of attempted murder after a staff member from Fort Hare University (UFH) was found tied up inside his flat on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the 32-year-old man was discovered by colleagues who became concerned when he did not arrive at work.
He was found with his hands and mouth covered with sellotape and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Kinana says no serious injuries have been reported.
Earlier this month the UFH made national headlines when the security aide and driver of the Vice Chancellor, Sakhele Buhlungu, was shot and killed.
Brigadier Kinana, however, said that Wednesday's incident was not related.
