Two women who allegedly fired random shots at a funeral in Tsolo in October this year have been arrested.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says Bongo Yonela Dipa, 24 and Chumisa Phunguzwa,35, appeared in the Tsolo Magistrates Court on Friday.
She says they were each granted bail of R2 000.
Warrant Officer Mhlakuvana says it is alleged that the duo attended the funeral of a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery suspect that occurred at the N2 Tsolo junction.
She says on 15 October 2023, the two women allegedly attended the funeral and were among the attendees at the burial service held at Mcetywa location.
Due to the random shooting incident, a person was allegedly injured and police opened a case docket that was later transferred to the Provincial Cash-in-Transit Task Team of the Hawks.
WO Mhlakuvana says a comprehensive investigation resulted in the execution of a warrant of arrest.
Phunguzwa and Dipa are facing charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and the unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The matter was postponed to the 5th of February 2024.
