Two teachers gunned down in Gauteng

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed concern over the senseless killings of educators in the province.

This follows the deaths of two teachers on Friday.

In the first incident on Friday morning, a Life Orientation teacher at Riverside High School was shot near a traffic light near the University's Vaal campus as she was driving to work.

On Friday night, the Departmental Head of Commerce from the Unity Secondary School was fatally shot inside his car in Daveyton.

Gauteng Education Department Spokesperson, Steve Mabona said the department's Psycho-Social Support Unit will be deployed to both schools on Monday, to provide necessary counselling and trauma support to learners and teachers.

“We are deeply concerned at the onslaught of our educators following the deaths of two educators which occurred on the same day and involved shootings.

"We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to their respective families and school communities, while pleading with law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits of these senseless killings to book,” said Chiloane.
