Two people were killed and a third seriously injured in separate shack fires reported by authorities in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says two people died in a shack fire in Ikamvelihle in Motherwell in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He said 26-year-old Yanga Nongqoma and an as yet unknown person died in the fire which engulfed the shack situated in the yard of his parent's Ngoma Street home.
Meanwhile, Beetge says a man sustained serious burn wounds when his shack in Veeplaas caught alight.
The fire spread to other shacks but no one else was injured.
Beetge says police suspect that the cold weather may have prompted residents to use small stoves or other flammable heating sources in their shacks.
He's appealed to residents to be cautious when using these implements.
